Republican Jim Ritts has served as Ontario County District Attorney since 2018. In total, he has spent more than 25 years prosecuting criminals as a member of the District Attorney’s Office, including personally prosecuting thousands of cases, more than 130 jury trials, and more than 175 appeals.
During his tenure, District Attorney Ritts has won convictions that put dangerous criminals in State Prison, including horrific cases of murder, predatory sexual assault on children, burglary, assault and more.
District Attorney Ritts' proven track record has earned him the support of law enforcement, including strong endorsements from the New York State Police Investigators Association (NYSPIA) and the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association (NYSTPBA).
The NYSTPBA, which represents more than 7,000 active and retired uniformed members of the New York State Police said, “It is with careful consideration that the NYSTPBA is endorsing James Ritts in the election for Ontario County District Attorney. The challenges facing members of the law enforcement community are greater than ever before, and we need individuals like James Ritts in the judicial system.”
The NYSPIA, which represents over 2,700 active and retired members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) of the New York State Police, wrote to Ritts, “You are steadfast in your commitment in promoting justice for victims and helping to deter violent crime. You have worked closely with our membership and value the quality of our partnership.”
“It’s truly an honor to earn these important endorsements from the brave men and women of the State Police Investigators and Troopers,” said Ritts. “We’ve worked together on countless cases during my career, always striving to provide justice for crime victims. I’m humbled to have their support.”
Ritts, a Republican, is also running on the Conservative Party ballot line after earning the Ontario County Conservative Party’s endorsement earlier this year.
Additionally, District Attorney Ritts has given back to our community as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes, as a Sunday School Teacher and Past Trustee at United Church in Canandaigua, as a former Instructor at the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy, and by volunteering for countless hours as a Member of Kiwanis and Rotary. He lives in Canandaigua with his wife, Bonnie, and their son, Kyle.
Primary Election Day is slated for June 24, 2025, while the General Election will be held on November 4, 2025. Early Voting and Absentee Voting will be available for both elections.
